Small Business Program

  • Small businesses with an operating capacity of 50 employees or fewer can make equipment improvements to reduce their energy consumption at no cost.
  • Incentives of up to $3,000 for eligible lighting equipment and up to $2,500 for eligible non-lighting equipment, including free installation by qualified contractors.

Retrofit Program

  • Up to 50 percent of project costs paid to commercial, agricultural, industrial, institutional, and multi-unit residential buildings and facilities for equipment upgrades to reduce facility electricity consumption through program streams:
  • Prescriptive stream: incentives for typical upgrades of equipment for lighting controls, HVAC, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, computer room upgrades, industrial energy management information systems, manufacturing, and greenhouse growers to install LED lighting and advanced controls for ventilation and irrigation systems.
  • Custom stream: incentive rate of $1,800/kW or $0.20/kWh, whichever is greater, for large, non-lighting, non-standard retrofit projects that are more reflective of actual operating conditions.

Energy Performance Program

  • A multi-year, pay-for-performance program for commercial, institutional, or industrial facilities that encourages whole building energy performance improvements.
  • Must commit to achieve a minimum of five percent electricity savings per facility.
  • Performance incentives are $0.15/kWh electricity savings for summer peak hours, $0.04/kWh for off-peak electricity savings.

Industrial Performance Program

  • Industrial customers can receive up to $5 million in incentives for large, complex industrial energy-efficiency projects improving their industrial processes and for implementing system optimization projects.
  • Projects must propose minimum electricity savings of 2,000 MWh per year (which must represent a reduction of at least 15 percent of the baseline electricity use of the relevant industrial process).

Standard Programs:

Existing Building Commissioning Program

  • Offers up to $50,000 in incentives to building owners, operators or managers to hire qualified commissioning providers to undertake building recommissioning at their facilities, helping to realize energy savings from improved facility operations and maintenance (O&M) business practices.
  • Up to $100,000 of incentives available for confirmed and persistent energy savings.
  • Must have a minimum electricity consumption of 750,000 kWh in one year.

Instant Discount Program

  • Instant, point-of-sale discounts are available for eligible lighting purchased from participating distributors and dealers.
  • Existing commercial, agricultural, industrial, institutional, and multi-unit residential buildings and facilities in Ontario are eligible.

Expanded Energy Management Program

Save on Energy has expanded its Energy Management program offering for commercial, institutional and industrial facilities. Financial support for industrial facilities is provided by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) as part of its Green Industrial Facilities and Manufacturing Program.

Industrial, commercial and institutional facilities:
  • Receive funding to hire a dedicated energy manager, covering up to 50% of their salary to a maximum of $100,000 per facility per year.
  • Participate in expert-led strategic energy management coaching, cohorts and curriculum to identify and implement long-term energy-saving opportunities and Save on Energy incentives to help achieve energy savings and meet key milestones.
Industrial facilities only:
  • Receive funding of up to $250,000 for the installation of an energy management information system (EMIS).
  • Free training from recognized educational providers for organizations and energy practitioners on the Save on Energy program offerings, EMIS and sustaining operational energy savings.
