Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP)
The Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP) was developed by the Ontario Energy Board to help reduce electricity bills for lower-income households. If you are a customer of an electricity utility and in a lower-income home, you may qualify for a monthly credit of $35-$75 on your electricity bill. The amount of the credit will vary depending on:
- How many people live in your home and
- Your combined income
If your home is electrically heated, or you rely on medical devices requiring a lot of electricity, OESP offers a higher level of assistance. First Nations or Métis will also qualify for a higher level of assistance.
Consumers are encouraged to apply online at OntarioElectricitySupport.ca. First Nations electricity consumers should contact the Ontario Native Welfare Administrators Association (ONWAA) at 1-844-885-3157, to confirm eligibility and to complete their applications. If you need help completing the application, or you have not filed an income tax return recently, you can apply for OESP through the designated agency for our area, CommunicAction, located at 810 George Street in Hearst-ON.
Eligible consumers can expect the credit to appear directly on their bill about six to eight weeks from the date their application is approved.
If you have any questions in regards to the program, you may contact the OESP contact center by phone at 1-855-831-8151 (toll-free), or by email at email@example.com.
